Coated Bolt SPME Self Sealing Water Sampler for Manual and ROV Assisted Analyses of Harsh Environments such as Hydrothermal Vents

Overview:
  • A set of durable, self-sealing and chemically resistive water samplers were developed which employed a sorbent (HLB/PAN) coated rod as a structural support and SPME material
  • The coated screw design employs a spring that automatically forces the device shut, keeping the sorbent coating sealed in the Teflon body during transportation and stabilizing extracted compounds on the coating
  • The large surface area of the screw allows for good sensitivity even when shorter extraction times have used a total of 6 screws per sampler allows for simultaneous replicate sampling both a diver and submersible ROV operable variant of the sampling device have been designed and successfully deployed. 
The devices can be used for both targeted and untargeted studies but most interestingly would be the differentiation of unique features from deep-sea hydrothermal vents using untargeted multivariate statistical analysis.
